Canadian Boccia Team Ready for the 2009 America’s Championships

he Canadian Boccia National Team is set to participate in the 2009 America’s Cup, October 24th to 29th. The competition will be held at the Congres Centre in Montreal. The finals in individual will be on October 27 and the finals in Pair and Team will be on the 29th.

Some of the local athletes are pleased to compete before family and friends. “I’m very happy to play a big tournament like this not far from home”, said Francois Bourbonniere, who moved to Montreal from Sorel a few years ago. “I’m excited to play. The team has been training well over the last few months. We will be ready to give our best performance”.

The Canadian team will be lead by Paralympic veterans, Paul Gauthier, from Vancouver, BC, and Alison Kabush, of Surrey, BC in the BC3 division. The team will have 4 athletes Quebec

“The members of the Boccia National Team are ready for this competition”, said Mario Delisle, Head Coach of Canada’s National Program. “The training camps went well and the work accomplished in the different Regional Training Centre gives us a good follow up and a structure. Everybody on the team is eager for the event to start”, Canada will face South American power house Argentina and Brazil. Other countries present at the competition are United States, Mexico and Columbia. Prior the start of the competition, the Canadian team will have a two day camp at the Centre Sportif Claude-Robillard.

The Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sports Association (CCPSA) is an athlete focused national organization administering and governing sport opportunities targeted to athletes with CP and related disabilities.
