CCPSA Names the 2006 Boccia National Team

The Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sport Association (CCPSA) is pleased to announce the selection of its Boccia National Team for the 2006-2007 season.  The team of ten athletes in three divisions will be competing in the Boccia World Championships, in Rio de Janeiro, October 3-15.

The Canadian Team will be lead by double Paralympic medalists and 2006 Canadian Champion, Paul Gauthier, from Vancouver, BC, and Alison Kabush, of Surrey, BC in the BC3 division.  (In this division, player use ramps to throw their balls.).  They will be joined by Monica Martino, of Vancouver, BC.  2006 Canadian Champion Tammy McLeod, David Van Hoek and Adam Dukovish, of London, ON; and, Hanif Mawji of Burnaby, BC; will be the leaders for the BC1-BC2 team.  They will be joined by national team rookie, Nathan Moss, of Victoria, BC. Josh Vander Vies, of Sarnia, ON, and Jonathan Poulin of Montreal, QC will be the Canadian representative in the BC4 category.  

New full-time National Team Coach, Mario Delisle is pleased with this year’s team: “The National Team that will be heading to Rio de Janeiro for the World Boccia Championships this year is a superb mix of experienced and tested athletes in a clear progression that demands the demonstration of their skills while allowing them to measure their performance on an international scale”, he said.  “The players chosen for this team are competitive and the trainers are convinced that they will do what is necessary to train and sufficiently prepare in order to give us their best possible performance at the 2006 World Championships”.  Monique Camirand is his assistant -coach.

CCPSA also named its Espoir Team.  These are up and coming athletes who should be challenging for a position on the national team soon. Eric Lefebvre, of Montreal, Angi Wong-Lamore, of Sudbury, ON Martin Pichette  of Longueuil, QC, and Francois Bourbonniere, of Montreal, BC, will form the BC1-BC2 team. Lyne Miron of Montreal, QC Martin Dubois and Mathieu Marcil of Gatineau, QC will be the BC3 Espoir Team.  They will be coached by Cherie Cunningham and Rob Janoska.
