Canada Moves to the Final Round at the 2007 Cheshire International Boccia Tournament

(Ottawa, March 31, 2007) The Canadian boccia team composed of Paul Gauthier, Alison Kabush and Monica Martino of Vancouver, who play in the BC3 pairs category, dominated their opponents during the first day of the 2007 Cheshire International Boccia Tournament. With three wins, the Canadians advanced to the elimination round.

The Canadian team easily won 12-0 against Wales in their first game of the day. In their second game, after a difficult first end in which they conceded 4 points, the Canadians came back to score 3 in the second and two each in the third and fourth to win 7-4 against Scotland. The last match of the day was an easy one. Canada won 11-0 against one of the three teams from England.

“It has been a good day for Canada. Everybody played the same amount of time and performed well”, mentioned national team coach, Mario Delisle. It has been a while since I’ve seen them being this sharp”.  “This has been a great competition to continue to build on our team work and put into play many of the mental training techniques that we have been working on since we came back from the World Championship”, said Gauthier. “It has been competitive so far and I feel that this Canadian pair team is ready for the challenge of the World Cup in May”

In the semi-final tomorrow morning, Canada faces the team who will represent Great Britain at the World Cup in Vancouver. They finished the round-robin with two wins and a loss and finished second in their pool. The final will be played later in the day.
