Canada in England for the final tune up before the Paralympics

The Canadian Boccia Team is in Wigan, England this week-end to participate in the Cheshire Building Society International Boccia Championships, the final tune-up prior the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games which will be held September 6 – 17.

The top 4 countries in the world will be at the competition and it will be a good test for the Canadians. “This tournament is very important for us”, mentions Mario Delisle, National Team Head Coach. “The level of play of the National Teams here in England will be very high. It will be a good opportunity to compare us and see where we are in our preparation. This competition will give us the chance to work on the little details of our game”. There will be only pair and team events at this competition.

In the BC3 Pair category, Paul Gauthier and Monica Martino, of Vancouver, BC and Alison Kabush of Surrey, BC will be in the same pool as Ireland, Wales and Scotland 2. Other countries to look for in this division are Portugal and Spain.  In the BC1/BC2 Team Event, Adam Dukovich and Tammy McLeod, both of London, ON, Brock Richardson, of Brampton, ON and Hanif Mawji, of Burnaby, BC will face the number one ranked team in the world, Great-Britain. They will also face Holland in the round-robin. Finally, in the BC4 Pair category, Jonathan Poulin, of Laval, QC and Josh Vander Vies, of London, ON will play Portugal and Scotland on Saturday. All the finals will be played on Sunday.
