Individual competition has concluded for Canadian Boccia athletes at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games. All Canadian athletes were eliminates during the second day of competition.
In the BC3 category, Paul Gauthier, of Vancouver, BC, who was ranked second in the world coming into the competition, lost 6-3 in the quarter finals against the number one world ranked, Gregorios Polychronidis of Greece. Alison Kabush, of Surrey, BC won her last game of the round robin and concluded the competition in 9th place. Monica Martino, of Vancouver, BC, finished fourth in her pool.
In the BC2 category, Adam Dukovich, of London, ON, was defeated 5-4 against Keizo Uchida of Japan and did not qualify for the quarter finals, finishing in 11th place. Tammy McLeod, of London, ON, had one win and two losses.
In the BC1 category, Brock Richardson had a very good tournament at his first Paralympic Games with two wins and two losses. His record was good for 10th place overall. Hanif Mawji lost his last game and finished fourth in his pool.
National Team Coach, Mario Delisle was pleased with the individual performance of his athletes; “I’m happy the players played well. We were able to place four Canadians in the top 12, which is an improvement over Athens. Now we will concentrate on the pair and team competition and if everybody keeps the same level of play we should do very well”.
In Athletics, Kyle Petty, of Kitchener, ON, finish 10th in the discus throw.
