Good first day for Canada in Guadalajara

On Day 1 of the Parapan American Games, all members of the boccia team got on the court for an impressive start on this first day of round robins for a total of eight wins.

Paul Gauthier (Vancouver, BC), Martin Dubois (Val-des-Monts, QC), Marco Dispaltro (St-Jérôme, QC), Josh VanderVies (Vancouver, BC), Adam Dukovich (London, ON) and Dave Richer (Ste-Julie, QC) all prevailed in their initial matches. Brock Richardson (Brampton, ON) won his first two games 4-0 against Canadian teammate Keven Smyth-Worthylake (Ottawa, ON) and 7-5 against Venezuelan Luitze Yendez.

Four-time Paralympian Paul Gauthier defeated his opponent by outscoring him 11-2 this morning.

“I came out strong and focused today. This is only the first day of competitions, we’re just warming up.”

Head coach Mario Delisle (Montreal, QC) is eager for tomorrow’s performances. “It’s fun to start with such a great day. This is the perfect start for a competition. Athletes will have gained strong confidence that they can win. Everyone is in control. We are ready for tomorrow.”
