Canadian Boccia Team Announced for the 2009 Americas Championships

The Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sport Association (CCPSA) is pleased to announce the selection of the national boccia team for the 2009-2010. This marks the start of a new quadrennial that will culminate in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, England.

The Canadian team will be lead by Paralympic veterans, Paul Gauthier, from Vancouver, BC, and Alison Kabush, of Surrey, BC in the BC3 division.

The Canadian Team will compete at the Americas Championships, in Montreal, October 24th to 29th, 2009.

National program head coach Mario Delisle is pleased with this year’s team: « I’m very happy that we have five athletes moving up from the espoir program to the National Team to start this new quadrennial », said Delisle. « Our coaching staff is very motivated and with our new Training Centres, we will give the athletes the necessary tools to be successful».

CCPSA is opening three new Regional Training Centres in 2009 and has hired two regional coaches to run them. Ed Richardson of Brampton, ON will be responsible for the London/Toronto Centre. Herb Torrance will be responsible for the Centre in Vancouver/Victoria. Delisle will take care of the Montreal/Ottawa Centre.

CCPSA also named its national espoir team.
