Soccer

Soccer is a Paralympic sport for athletes with cerebral palsy, brain injury and stroke. The game has slight modifications to make it more exciting and to accommodate the abilities of the athletes. For example, there is no offside rule, the field is smaller, the goals are shorter and narrower and throw-in's may be made with one arm. Each team consists of 7 players, including the goal keeper. Games are played in 30 minute halves with a 15 minute break.

Athletes in the CP5 to CP8 classifications are eligible to play soccer.

This game involves incredible teamwork, coordination and thinking quickly on your feet. To find out more about 7-a-side soccer, please contact the Canadian Soccer Association. In some provinces, the provincial cerebral palsy sports association is also involved in delivering soccer for athletes with cerebral palsy. Please contact your provincial affiliate to find out more about soccer in your area.
